Instructions

Daily Hydration:
Extensions don’t receive natural hydration from your scalp oils the way your own hair does. After each wear, or before clipping in, apply a light leave-in moisturizer or a few drops of oil — argan, jojoba, or a lightweight serum — to the mid-lengths and ends. A little goes a long way: you’re hydrating the hair, not saturating it. Consistent hydration between wears is the most impactful thing you can do to keep the Light Yaki texture soft and tangle-free.

Washing:
Wash every 7–10 wears using a sulfate-free shampoo. Use lukewarm water and wash in a downward motion from weft to ends — never scrub or bunch the hair. Follow with a moisturizing conditioner. Let it sit for 3–5 minutes, then rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle. Air dry whenever possible. If using a blow dryer, keep it on low heat and use a heat protectant. Avoid high heat near the weft — the bonds hold up best when heat exposure is minimal.

Stying:
Safe up to 450°F for blending, not daily styling. The Light Yaki texture is calibrated to match a silk press finish out of the package — you shouldn’t need to apply heat repeatedly to maintain the look. If touch-ups are needed, use a flat iron on medium heat with a heat protectant. Use the heatless curls method with pin curls or flexi rods set overnight for easy, long-lasting curl styles.

Storage:
After each wear, gently detangle from ends to roots with a wide-tooth comb and lay the pieces flat or hang them on a clip-in hanger. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid bunching or folding the wefts — this can cause creasing and tangling over time. Proper storage between wears is what keeps clip-ins looking fresh install after install.

Longevity:
With proper care, Silk Press Clip-Ins typically last 12+ months with regular wear. Because clip-ins are removed after each use, they experience less continuous stress than sew-ins — which means they can last even longer if you’re consistent with hydration and gentle handling.

Coloring:
This hair is 100% virgin and unprocessed, which means it accepts color beautifully. The cuticle is fully intact and has never been chemically treated — giving your colorist a clean canvas to work with.

We recommend having all color work done by a professional colorist experienced with virgin human hair extensions.
Darkening to jet black. The hair ships in 1B Natural Black. If you prefer a true jet black (1), a professional can apply a semi-permanent or demi-permanent color deposit. This is a low-risk process that doesn’t require developer or bleach and won’t alter the texture or integrity of the hair. One session is typically all it takes.

Lightening and bleaching: Because this hair is virgin, it can be lightened significantly — we recommend lightening no further than a #27 honey blonde for the best results while maintaining the hair’s texture, strength, and integrity. The safest approach is to lift no more than 2–3 shades in one session; if a greater lift is needed, your colorist can lighten gradually over multiple sessions while conditioning in between. Going beyond #27 is not recommended, as aggressive lightening can compromise the hair’s structure and is difficult to reverse. Bleaching should always be handled by a professional colorist experienced with virgin human hair.

Before coloring: Always ask your colorist to perform a strand test on a small section first. This confirms how the hair responds to lightener and helps your colorist dial in the timing and formula before committing to the full set.

During the process: A bond-protecting treatment applied during the lightening process will help maintain the hair’s structural integrity. Your colorist will select the appropriate developer volume and technique based on your target shade.

After coloring: Lightened hair needs more moisture. Follow up with a deep conditioning treatment immediately after processing, and increase your regular conditioning frequency going forward. Expect the texture to soften slightly after bleaching — this is normal for virgin hair and doesn’t indicate damage if the process was done correctly.

Important: Colored hair cannot be returned. Once the hair has been colored, dyed, or chemically treated in any way, it is no longer eligible for our 30-day return policy. We recommend coloring only after you’ve confirmed the length, weight, and texture are right for you.

Less time blending, more time living

You already know the routine — blend your leave-out, try to get it to match, and still spend more time with a flat iron than you want to. The Kinky Straight Blowout texture gives you your time back. It works with your natural hair, so blending your leave-out means less heat, less effort, and less time standing in front of the mirror. And when you want to switch it up, flat-iron these wefts for a silk press finish — the extensions take the heat, not your natural hair.

Still have questions?
Don’t worry, we got you…

How many bundles do I need?

Most sew-in with leave-out installs use 2 bundles for natural fullness. For lengths 18” and above, or if you want a super full look, plan for 3+ bundles.

Can these extensions be dyed or colored?

Yes! This is virgin (undyed) human hair, so it can be darkened to #1 (Jet Black) or bleached to #27 (honey blonde).

How do I care for these extensions?

Hydrate the ends with a light oil daily/nightly, wash and condition every 1-2 weeks, and uninstall and deep cleanse every 4-6 weeks. See our care instructions for more details.

How long do these extensions last?

With proper care, these extensions should last up to 1 year or more and support multiple installs.

Why Opal & Charlie?

Most hair extensions are made for a customer who isn't you. The textures are too silky, the weight is off, or the marketing is aimed at a version of beauty that doesn't match the way you actually wear your hair. Opal & Charlie was built to change that.

Made for the straight natural.

We make Silk Press and Blowout extensions for women who love their straight look and their natural hair — and refuse to choose between them. Extensions that take the heat so your hair doesn't have to. A straight style that lets your roots breathe.
